Symposium

The goal of international symposiums Materials and metallurgy organized by the Croatian metallurgical society is to point out the current state and achievements in the field of metallurgy and materials. The special focus of symposiums is on the:

A) Materials – section 1

  • new materials
  • refractory materials
  • development
  • application
  • physical metallurgy

B) Metallurgy:

  • process metallurgy and materials – section 2
  • deformation processing of metals and alloys – section 3
  • technologies – section 3
  • energy – section 3
  • ecology in metallurgy – section 4 and other
  • quality assurance and management – section 4 and other

Since 1994 CMS is organizing international symposiums Materials and metallurgy on the regular 2-years basis. Until today, 13 symposiums were held in total:

In organisation of Stahlinstitut VDEh and European Steel Institute Confederation (ESIC) associations every year at the beginning of September a meeting of all world steel and metallurgy associations is organized in Düsseldorfu, Germany under the name of nternational Meeting of Steel and Metallurgical Societies (today International Societies of the Steel Institutes (ISSI)). Representatives of all these organizations from over 60 countries are attending this meeting. They discuss the schedule of world, European and international symposiums in the field of activities of these organizations, the state of metallurgy, particularly steel production in the world and individual countries, development perspectives, and often, the education specialist for metallurgy.

In November 1992 I. Mamuzić as president of CMS attended the international meeting VDEh, where he was permitted to search for the organization of the first International Symposium on Materials and Metallurgy in Croatia for 1993 in Sisak, Croatia. Because of the war in Sisak during the period planned for the symposium (15th to 17th September 1993), the symposium was delayed and subsequently held in Zagreb, 16th-18th February 1994 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture at the University of Zagreb.

The final report of the foregoing held international symposiums are regularly discussed and accepted at the International Meeting of Steel and Metallurgical Societies with special praise to the organization, detailed reports and large number of reports, and the proposal was accepted for the 14th International Symposium on Materials and metallurgy that will be held in Šibenik, 21st-26th of June 2020. Symposiums of the CMS are traditional gathering place for international and domestic experts and scholars of different profiles: metallurgists, physicists, chemists, engineers etc. Only few symposium organizers not only in Croatia but in the world have such numerous number of applicants, especially in technical professions.
